JOHOR BAHRU, 31 Oct. – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Efinix Technology (M) Sdn. Bhd. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to engage in academic development and research collaboration.
The MoU signing ceremony was held at the UTM Johor Bahru campus here today. UTM was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr Rosli Md Illias and Efinix Technology were represented by the Vice President (Integrated Circuit Engineering), Mr. Chong Thow Pang.
Efinix Technology (M) Sdn. Bhd is a global field programmable gate array (FPGA) company with offices worldwide, including Malaysia. Efinix is a leader in programmable platforms that accelerate innovations in artificial intelligence, edge computing, and custom logic.
The company’s core technology is the Quantum programmable fabric, which delivers up to four times power-performance-area advantage over traditional FPGAs. Efinix products support a wide range of applications from easy-to-use consumer products to input-output intensive interfaces to complete system solutions.
For the record, the engagement between the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Efinix Technology began in 2021 when the company donated several FPGA boards to the faculty and delivered hands-on courses for UTM’s academic staff. Additionally, they have also held activities such as technical talks and recruitment drive. From there onwards, a discussion to establish MoU for further collaborations was held.
This deliberate cooperation enables sharing and exchanging of knowledge, ideas, and insights between UTM and Efinix Technology for research and student development. Several initiatives have been discussed such as setting up an FPGA lab, industrial training for students and academic staff, final year project sponsorship and industrial grant.
In addition to this collaborative relationship between UTM and Efinix, it is hoped that it would further enhance the global standing of both parties at the national and global levels.
