UTM Infineon Collaboration Empowers AI Research and Education

Sep 5, 2025 | UTM NewsHub

SINGAPORE, Sept 4 – In a significant step toward advancing artificial intelligence (AI) and embedded systems education, two academic staff from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) — Ir. Dr. Hazilah Mad Kaidi and Dr. Mohd Shahrizal Rusli — participated in two significant events organized by Infineon Technologies Singapore. The events, held on 2 and 4 September 2025, were the Infineon Envision Conference 2025 and the Deepcraft Studio Training, each hosted at different venues in Singapore.

These engagements were part of UTM’s strategic initiative to upskill faculty members in cutting-edge technologies for teaching and research. The Infineon Envision Conference 2025 served as a global platform for thought leaders and innovators to share insights on the future of AI, Internet of Things (IoT), and smart systems. With speakers from renowned organizations such as BCG X, Samsung C&T, and the National Robotics Program, the conference highlighted the transformative role of AI in industrial automation, smart robotics, and secure embedded systems. Sessions such as “AI at the Edge” and “Smart Robotics, Smarter Future” showcased real-world applications of AI in manufacturing and consumer electronics, offering valuable perspectives for academic integration.

Complementing the conference, the DeepCraft Studio Training on 4 September provided hands-on experience with Infineon’s Edge AI development platform. Formerly known as Imagimob Studio, this tool enables rapid development of low-power, memory-efficient AI models suitable for embedded devices.

Participants were trained in data collection, annotation, model building, and deployment — with practical applications in gesture recognition, audio classification, and predictive maintenance. This training equips UTM educators with the skills to incorporate real-world AI tools into their curriculum and research labs. These initiatives are closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.

By investing in professional development and international collaboration, UTM is fostering a culture of lifelong learning and innovation. The knowledge gained from these events will directly contribute to enhancing the quality of education and driving technological advancement in Malaysia’s academic and industrial sectors. Through active participation in global tech forums, UTM continues to position itself as a leader in AI education, ensuring its faculty members are equipped with the latest tools and insights to inspire the next generation of innovators.

Looking ahead, Infineon Technologies is set to release its new PSoC Edge AI microcontroller series — E81, E83, and E84 — in October. These next-generation devices are optimized for machine learning applications and designed to support IoT, consumer, and industrial use cases. Featuring advanced neural network acceleration, robust security, and versatile connectivity options, the PSoC Edge series will empower developers to build responsive and energy-efficient AI solutions at the edge.
