KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 – The Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) successfully co-organized and hosted The 3rd International Conference on M3 IT Convergence (ICMIC2024) (See Fig. 1), held from August 7 to 9, 2024, at the Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This prestigious event brought together leading experts, researchers, and industry professionals to explore and discuss the latest advancements in the harmonious convergence of Mobile, Military, and Maritime technologies.
The conference was designed to provide a platform for the exchange of innovative ideas and research findings that bridge the gap between these critical sectors. With the rapid evolution of technology, the convergence of IT in mobile, military, and maritime domains is increasingly vital for addressing global challenges, enhancing security, and improving communication systems.
ICMIC2024 featured four distinguished keynote speakers: Adjunct Professor Dr. Ahmad Nasruddin ‘Atiqullah (Refer Fig. 1), Chief Officer for the Technical and Monitoring Sector at the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC); Dr. Ir. M Zurix Mohamed, Custodian for Instrument & Control at PETRONAS Group Technical Solutions (GTS); Professor Dr. Tony Q.S. Quek from the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD); and Mr. Joseph Lee, Asia-Pacific Director of Palantir (Refer Fig.2). A total of 102 papers were presented, sharing insights and expertise on various topics, including cutting-edge developments in mobile technology, advancements in military IT infrastructure, and the latest innovations in maritime communications. The conference also featured a series of plenary sessions, panel discussions, and technical workshops, offering participants an in-depth understanding of current trends and future directions in M3 IT Convergence.

In addition to the academic and technical presentations, the conference provided opportunities for networking and collaboration among attendees. Exhibitors from leading companies and research institutions showcased their latest products, services, and technological solutions, fostering potential partnerships and business opportunities. Ten best paper awards were presented during the conference dinner (Refer Fig. 3), including one awarded to Afida Md Zin, a PhD graduate from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), UTM.
ICMIC2024 attracted a diverse group of participants, including academics, industry leaders, government officials, and military representatives. Their collective expertise will contribute to the development of strategies and solutions that support the seamless integration of IT across mobile, military, and maritime sectors.
As the world continues to face complex security and communication challenges, the insights gained from this conference will play a crucial role in shaping the future of IT convergence. The event not only underscores the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration but also highlights Malaysia’s role as a hub for technological innovation and research in the Asia-Pacific region.
