SEMARANG, July 30 — Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has taken significant steps to enhance its global academic presence through the Visiting Professor Programme at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM) at Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) in Indonesia. The event took place on July 30 and 31, 2025, at the Acintya Prasada Building of FSM UNDIP. Prof. Dr. Nor Haniza Sarmin from the Department of Mathematical Sciences at UTM was invited as a distinguished Visiting Professor.
The programme was officially inaugurated by Dr. Eng. Adi Wibowo, the Vice Dean for Resources of FSM UNDIP. He emphasized the importance of building international academic networks to strengthen the teaching and research capabilities of FSM UNDIP. Prof. Nor Haniza’s visit was part of UNDIP’s initiative under the World Class University (WCU) framework, which aims to deepen international partnerships and foster academic exchange.

On the first day, Professor Nor Haniza delivered an academic lecture titled “Computational Analysis of Topological Indices in Algebraic Graphs Derived from Groups and Rings.” The lecture explored the intersection of algebra and graph theory, focusing on topological indices and computational techniques applied to algebraic graph structures. Attendees included students and faculty members, and the session sparked engaging discussions and meaningful academic exchanges.
Professor Nor Haniza is a renowned expert in algebra, graph theory, and mathematical modeling, and her contributions have earned her recognition both regionally and globally. Her role as a Visiting Professor underscores UTM’s commitment to regional academic development, cross-border knowledge sharing, and the expansion of international research networks.

The program continued on the second day with a Manuscript Clinic, where Prof. Nor Haniza delivered an engaging session titled “Tips and Tricks to Get Published.” The clinic transformed into an interactive discussion about the strategic importance of scientific publications at all academic levels. Prof. Nor Haniza emphasized that for students, publishing not only fulfills graduation requirements but also enhances academic visibility and increases opportunities for scholarships and awards. For academic staff, publications are essential for career advancement, securing research funding, and establishing collaborative networks. At the institutional level, a strong publication record strengthens academic reputation, supports the achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs), and helps attract and retain top talent.
The Manuscript Clinic attracted enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members at FSM UNDIP, providing practical insights and strategies for producing impactful research outputs in the form of research articles. Prof. Nor Haniza’s sessions left a lasting impression on participants and highlighted the importance of quality research and publications in enhancing institutional profiles.

This program represented a significant advancement in the partnership between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP). On November 10, 2024, both institutions formalized their academic collaboration through a ceremonial exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Deans of their respective Faculties of Science. The MoU includes a variety of initiatives such as joint research, curriculum development, academic mobility programs, and co-hosted international seminars. The involvement of Professor Nor Haniza Sarmin as a Visiting Professor further strengthened this strategic alliance and opened opportunities for future collaborations in the mathematical sciences and beyond.
