UTM Strengthens Research Networks with Bandung Institutions

BANDUNG, Jan 15 – A delegation from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) recently completed a three-day research networking visit to leading institutions in Bandung, Indonesia to strengthen ties and explore new collaborative opportunities in sustainable technology and environmental engineering. The delegation, led by Ir. Dr. Tan Lian See from Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), visited four prominent institutions in Bandung from 13-15 January 2025.

At Telkom University, which shares an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UTM, they were received by Dr. Kemas Muslim, Director of Directorate of Research and Community Service, and Dr. Faisal Budiman, Manager of Research. The visit successfully identified potential collaborations in machine learning applications for water treatment process. The delegation managed to engage with several Centres of Excellence at Telkom University. They met with key researchers including Dr. Asep Suhendi, Dr. Casmika, and Dr. Arif Abdul Aziz from the Intelligent Sensing – Internet of Things Centre of Excellence. Discussions were also held with Professor Jangkung Raharjo, Head of Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Centre of Excellence, and Dr. Murman Dwi Prasetio, Head of Intelligent Manufacturing and Sustainable System Centre of Excellence.

The visit continued with meetings at two other prominent institutions. At Universitas Muhammadiyah Bandung, they met with Prof. (Mad) Dr., Ir. Syafrudin Masri, Dean of Faculty of Science and Technology. At Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), discussions were held with Prof. Dr. Ir. Tirto Prakoso from the Research Group on Sustainable Energy and Technology, Department of Chemical Engineering Faculty of Industrial Technology.

The networking visit concluded at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), where they engaged with the Environmental Nanotechnology Research Group under the Research Center for Environmental and Clean Technology, led by Prof. Dr. Eng. Muhamad Nasir. The team also toured BRIN’s advanced research facilities.

This networking visit has successfully opened up more opportunities for collaboration in several research areas, particularly in digital infusion for sustainable technology. The expertise and facilities available at these institutions complement UTM’s research strengths. This aligns with UTM’s ongoing initiative to expand international research networks and foster cross-institutional collaboration in key technological areas.
