UTM Tigers Roar to Glory : Women’s Claims 1st Runner-Up at Porkalam 2.0

PAGOH, Nov 30 – The UTM Tigers delivered an impressive performance at the Inter-Varsity Kabaddi Tournament “Porkkalam 2.0” 2024, which took place at the Dewan Serbaguna, Pagoh Education Hub. The tournament was organized by the Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) Stallions in collaboration with the UTHM Sports Centre (PSU) and the Biro Kebudayaan Mahasiswa India (BKMI). It featured universities from across the country competing vigorously for top honors.

The Persatuan Kabaddi UTM sent a strong delegation of 21 players to the event. The men’s team fought valiantly, making it to the quarter-finals before being eliminated by tough opponents.

The women’s team captured attention by securing second place in the tournament under the guidance of their coaches. In the final match, they faced Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in a high-energy encounter where the players gave their all. Both teams showcased solid defence; however, the UTM Tigers Women ultimately fell short, losing with a score of 50-19. Despite the outcome, their remarkable journey to the finals was a proud moment for Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

One of the tournament’s highlights was Sankari Pushpanathan’s outstanding performance from UTM’s Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering (FKT). Her exceptional raiding skills earned her the prestigious title of Best Raider. Sankari’s agility, precision, and strategic plays were essential to her team’s success, leaving a lasting impact on the competition.

The Persatuan Kabaddi UTM expressed pride in the team’s achievements and reaffirmed its commitment to developing more outstanding players. A spokesperson stated, “This victory is a testament to our team’s dedication and hard work.” They added, “While some questioned our capabilities, we believe this achievement speaks for itself. It’s just the beginning, and we are determined to build upon this success, strengthening UTM’s presence in future kabaddi tournaments.”
