From December 29th to 30th, 2023, Persatuan Mahasiswa Sains Komputer (PERSAKA) of the Faculty of Computing at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) organized the highly beneficial “CPP Basics Clinic” at MPK3 and MPK4 of block N28. This two-day program aimed to assist 60 first-year students who were struggling with Programming Technique 1, specifically focusing on C++. Timed strategically just before their practical exams in early January, the clinic offered intensive learning sessions, mentorship opportunities, and practical coding applications.

The schedule for the first day, December 29th, 2023 (Friday), began with registration at 8:30 am, followed by the opening ceremony led by the esteemed director of the program, second-year Computer Network and Security student, Noor Aliyah Binti Ahmad Saufi, along with a prayer recitation session. Mentor-mentee introductions facilitated guided learning and practical coding sessions on topics 2 and 3 throughout the day, concluding with a closing session and lunch distribution.

On December 30th, 2023 (Saturday), the second day of the clinic commenced with similar registration and an opening session. A review of topics 2 and 3 set the stage for more mentor-led learning and coding sessions, delving into topic 4. A well-deserved breakfast break was followed by additional coding sessions, a summary of the topics covered, a closing session with a photo-taking opportunity, and finally, a post-mortem session with the program committee and mentors.

Enthusiastic participants gathered for Day 2 of CPP Basics Clinic.

The Basics Clinic demonstrated a commitment to student success, fostering an environment where learning and collaboration flourished. The program aimed not only to address academic challenges but also to instill confidence and provide essential skills for upcoming exams.
