JOHOR BAHRU, 21 May 2025 – Empowering researchers and fostering ethical practices, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Library, in collaboration with Research Alliances, successfully hosted two insightful sessions on eBook publishing and research ethics. The sessions, held at Seminar Room 3, Level 4, UTM Library, Perpustakaan Sultanah Zanariah Johor Bahru (PSZJB), aimed to enhance the scholarly publishing knowledge of UTM’s academic staff and students.
Dr. Benny Ang, Ph.D., Platform Consultant – Southeast Asia, Elsevier ScienceDirect, served as the keynote speaker, sharing his expertise on navigating the evolving landscape of academic publishing. The morning session, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, focused on “eBook Publishing with Elsevier,” providing valuable insights into the potential of eBook publishing, the authoring experience, and strategies for maximizing user engagement with digital academic content. Only UTM academic staff was invited to this event due to limited seating.
The afternoon session, held from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, addressed the critical aspects of “Research Publishing and Ethics.” Dr. Ang emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity in research, adhering to publishing standards, and avoiding common ethical pitfalls. This session welcomed all academic staff and students to the venue.
These sessions supported UTM’s ongoing efforts to cultivate a responsible and forward-thinking research culture, equipping its academic community with the knowledge and confidence to publish high-quality research. The face-to-face format allowed for direct interaction with Dr. Ang, promoting engaging discussions and practical insights. Participants lauded the sessions for providing clarity on complex publishing processes and ethical considerations. Recent discussions in academic circles highlight the increasing importance of ethical publishing practices, particularly in avoiding plagiarism and ensuring data integrity, making UTM’s initiative timely and relevant. The collaboration between UTM Library and Research Alliances, coupled with Elsevier’s expertise, underscored UTM’s commitment to supporting its researchers in achieving excellence in scholarly publishing.
