One of the key highlights of the programme was Session 6: “AI Governance & Risk – Who Is Responsible?”, delivered by Prof. Dr. Naomie Salim, Director of the UTM Big Data Centre (UTM BDC).

The session encouraged participants to view AI from a broader perspective, emphasizing that the discussion should not focus solely on technological sophistication. It also addressed critical questions such as who should be accountable for AI-driven decisions, how risks should be managed, and what controls are necessary to ensure AI is deployed responsibly and appropriately.

These issues are particularly relevant to the public sector, where AI adoption can significantly impact service delivery, decision-making processes, data management, as well as the rights and interests of citizens.

The sharing session also provided participants with valuable insights into the fact that AI is not merely a matter of technology. It is equally about people, accountability, and trust.
