INDUSTRIAL BIOPROCESSING FOR FOOD SECURITY AND HUMAN HEALTHÂ LAB
The Industrial Bioprocessing for Food Security and Human Health Laboratory is a joint laboratory which focuses on applied industrial microbiology and bioprocessing research, aiming to promote sustainable food security and better human health outcomes. The lab emphasizes its research on microbial cultivation, fermentation technology, downstream processing and initial product development while prioritizing safety and functional assessment. Operating under Microbiology Biosafety Level 1 (BSL-1), the lab exclusively works with non-pathogenic microorganisms, adhering to established biosafety and regulatory standards. Its infrastructure and operational setup are tailored to support controlled experimental work, lab-scale studies and translational research projects. A major strategic goal of the lab is to build strong partnerships with industry players, government bodies and research institutions both nationally and internationally. These partnerships enable knowledge exchange, contract research, technology validation and the commercialization of research findings which position the lab as a comprehensive platform for industry-academia collaboration and the development of human capital in the field of industrial biotechnology.
