“Core Data Science Competencies”

Data science refers to a data-centric approach towards understanding observable phenomena in the world around us. Multidisciplinary in nature, the goal of data science is to utilize a variety of tools/techniques drawn from mathematics/statistics and computer science to mould data into organized knowledge. In this talk, the author discusses some of the core competencies required for one to pursue a career in data science, injecting experience from the perspective of an academic.
