Strengthening International Collaboration in Postgraduate Studies

FUKUOKA, Mar 24 – The CAMPUS Asia+ Energy and Environmental Systems Technology (EEST) Reunion Symposium 2025, held in Fukuoka, Japan, successfully gathered esteemed faculty members, researchers, and students from four leading universities: Kyushu University (Kyudai), Pusan National University (PNU), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Spanning two days, the symposium served as a platform to reflect on past achievements, promote academic exchange, and strengthen collaborative ties in engineering education and research.

The first day of the symposium, March 23rd, took place at Aqua Hakata, setting the stage for meaningful discussions and networking among participants. The event was officially chaired by Prof. Dr. Dong Wang, Director of CAMPUS Asia+ Kyudai, who opened the symposium with welcoming remarks. Following this, representatives from each university delivered addresses highlighting the progress of the CAMPUS Asia+ program and its impact on international academic cooperation. The day’s sessions included the highly anticipated EEST Commencement Ceremony, where attendees celebrated student achievements in the program.

On March 24th, the symposium continued at Kyudai’s Chikushi Campus, where research sharing sessions took center stage. Scholars and researchers from Kyudai, PNU, SJTU, and UTM presented their latest findings, showcasing innovative approaches to energy and environmental systems technology. These sessions facilitated valuable knowledge exchange and laid the foundation for future collaborative projects.

UTM was represented by a distinguished delegation led by the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FKM), Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Zaini Ahmad, along with Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Muhamad Azizi Mat Yajid. Members of the CAMPUS Asia+ UTM Steering Committee also attended the event, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aminuddin Saat, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kang Hooi Siang, Dr. Ummikalsom Abidin, and Dr. Muhammad Faiz Hilmi Rani played crucial roles in fostering international engagement within the program.

The symposium concluded with an Opinion Exchange session for alumni, providing a platform for graduates of the CAMPUS Asia+ EEST program to share their experiences and insights. This discussion underscored the program’s success in equipping students with the necessary skills and global perspectives to excel in their respective fields.

One of the key discussions during the symposium centred around the potential development of a Doctoral Dual Degree Programme (CAMPUS Asia+ Mode 4). If realized, this initiative would further enhance research collaboration and academic mobility, allowing PhD students to benefit from the combined expertise and resources of Kyudai, PNU, SJTU, and UTM.

The CAMPUS Asia+ EEST Reunion Symposium 2025 reaffirmed the participating universities’ commitment to advancing postgraduate studies through international collaboration. With continued efforts in academic exchange and joint research, the program is well-positioned to contribute to the development of innovative solutions in energy and environmental sustainability.
