UTM Pagoh Hosts ICA Lecture: Unveiling the Potential of Bali Herbal Coffee

PAGOH, 9 June 2025 – Innovation and tradition converged at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Pagoh as the Innovation Centre in Agritechnology for Advanced Bioprocessing (ICA) hosted the second series of its Visiting Lecture for 2025. The lecture, held at the Chlorophyll Seminar Room, spotlighted the promising potential of Bali herbal coffee as a local innovation with global appeal.

The distinguished speaker, Professor Dr. Ni Luh Suriani from Udayana University, Bali, Indonesia, captivated the audience with her insights and research findings. Professor Suriani, a renowned Biopesticide Professor from the Biology Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University, Bali, Indonesia, was also a Visiting Professor at ICA, UTM from 1st to 10th June 2025. During her presentation, she delved into the scientific formulation, potential health benefits, and effective commercialization strategies for crafting herbal coffee products using locally sourced ingredients. She highlighted how Bali’s rich biodiversity and traditional knowledge could be leveraged to create unique and functional beverages.

The lecture served as a platform for international academic exchange and fostered research collaboration between UTM and Udayana University. Participants, comprising UTM staff, researchers, and students, actively engaged in a dynamic Q&A session following the presentation. The discussions revolved around the integration of traditional herbal knowledge with modern scientific techniques to enhance the value and marketability of local products. The event underscored UTM’s commitment to supporting and promoting local innovations with global potential.

The ICA Visiting Lecture Series aims to provide a valuable platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration. The lecture by Professor Dr. Ni Luh Suriani provided insights into the development of local herbal products with global potential, particularly focusing on the value-added innovation of Bali herbal coffee. E-certificates were awarded to registered participants to acknowledge their presence and active participation in this enriching event.
