JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 13 – The new year has kicked off with an electrifying start at the 8th Electrical Engineering Capstone Showcase (EECS 2025) proudly organized by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Now in its 8th iteration, this annual exhibition shines a spotlight on the innovative capstone projects developed by the final-year students of FKE. These projects span several major fields within the electrical engineering discipline, including: Electrical and Power Engineering, Electronic and Computer Engineering, Control and Mechatronics Engineering, Communication Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences.

dean chair
Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Bruce Leow Chee Yen, Chait of the 8th EECS 2025, delivered the welcoming speech, followed by the opening speech by Prof. Dr. Jafri Din, Dean of FKE UTM

The capstone project serves as a vital component of the students’ educational journey, integrating the knowledge and skills they have acquired throughout their undergraduate studies. The capstone project challenges our students to devise practical solutions for most pressing challenges facing both industry and society today.  The capstone project thus provides a valuable training ground for students to conceive, design, implement, and operate engineering projects within the constraints of limited resources and a tight 14-week timeline. The successful completion of these projects stands as a testament to the students’ competence and bridges the gap between theoretical study and practical application.

This highly anticipated event brought together a remarkable total of 113  projects meticulously crafted by 405 final-year students across five programmes under FKE. These projects address 22 critical themes, including smart manufacturing and robotics, sustainable energy, sustainable agriculture, food security, sustainable cities and communities, quality education, good health and well-being, etc, all aligned with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
