KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) continues to solidify its global engagement efforts with a courtesy visit from Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST), China, led by Professor Dr. Wang Hongbin, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Automation.

The visit, hosted by UTM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim, underscores both institutions’ shared aspiration to enhance academic and research cooperation through meaningful international collaboration. Discussions centred on exploring avenues for Sino-foreign partnerships in higher education, with a particular emphasis on joint academic programmes, collaborative research, and student mobility initiatives.

Professor Dr. Wang Hongbin and the KUST delegation were given an overview of UTM’s academic ecosystem and its strategic focus on innovation, sustainability, and future-ready talent development. The meeting highlighted the mutual commitment of both universities to contribute to global knowledge exchange and the development of human capital across borders.

UTM Vice-Chancellor emphasised the importance of nurturing long-term academic ties that can translate into impactful, inclusive educational outcomes. “As a global university, UTM remains steadfast in building partnerships that not only advance scientific knowledge, but also empower communities through innovation-driven education,” said Professor Shafry.

The visit also marks a step forward in UTM’s broader internationalisation strategy, particularly in fostering engagement with leading institutions across Asia. With China being a key partner in science, technology, and education, collaborations such as these are vital in catalysing regional and global solutions to today’s most pressing challenges.

Looking ahead, both UTM and KUST expressed strong interest in initiating concrete programmes in the near future—including co-developed courses, joint supervision of postgraduate students, and shared research platforms in engineering and automation.

The visit concluded on a positive note with mutual expressions of goodwill and a shared vision for sustained cooperation.

Through strategic global partnerships like this, UTM reinforces its aspiration of Innovating Sustainable Solutions and remains committed to advancing knowledge and technology for the benefit of humanity—In the Name of God for Mankind.
