ICA UTM Pagoh Hosts Microbiota & Veterinary Science Lectures

Jun 25, 2025 | UTM Nexus News

PAGOH, 24 June 2025 – Cultivating collaborative research, the Innovation Centre in Agritechnology (ICA) UTM Pagoh successfully hosted the Visiting Lecture Series 3 & 4/2025 on Tuesday, 24th June 2025. The event, held in a hybrid format at the Chlorophyll Seminar Room, UTM Pagoh, featured insightful lectures on microbiota and veterinary science delivered by esteemed visiting professors from Aksaray University, Türkiye.

The session was officially opened by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Hesham Al-Enshasy, Director of ICA UTM Pagoh, who emphasized the importance of international academic exchange in advancing research frontiers. The lecture series showcased two distinguished speakers: Prof. Dr. Ilker Camkerten, who presented on “New Horizons: Possible Consequences of Dysbiosis Development and Treatment Options,” and Prof. Dr. Ramazan Ilgun, who spoke on “Optimization of Canine Microbiota: Role and Effects of Prebiotics.”

Prof. Dr. Camkerten’s lecture explored the complexities of dysbiosis, an imbalance in the gut microbiota, and its potential health consequences. He also discussed current and emerging treatment strategies. Prof. Dr. Ilgun, on the other hand, delved into the optimization of canine microbiota, highlighting the significant role of prebiotics in promoting gut health and overall well-being in dogs. His presentation shed light on recent studies indicating the crucial link between gut health and immunity in animals. According to a recent study published in the journal *Veterinary Sciences*, a balanced gut microbiota is essential for optimal immune function and disease prevention in canines.

The lecture series was conducted as part of ICA UTM’s ongoing commitment to strengthening international academic exchange and fostering collaboration in microbiome science and veterinary health. The hybrid format allowed for a wider audience, including researchers, students, and academicians, to participate and engage with the speakers. Attendees actively participated in Q&A sessions, which allowed for extensive discussions and knowledge sharing.

The event concluded with a group photo session and a networking lunch, providing a relaxed environment for attendees to further discuss the topics presented and forge new connections. This initiative underscores UTM’s dedication to fostering international partnerships and advancing research in vital fields, aligning with global efforts to improve animal and human health through a better understanding of the microbiome.
