UTM Climbs in Global Rankings: Ranks 443 in Latest Webometrics Ranking, 2nd in Malaysia

In a significant achievement for Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), the prestigious institution has climbed the ranks in the latest Webometrics Ranking, securing the 443rd position globally in the latest January 2024 edition of the ranking. This marks a noteworthy improvement compared to last year’s January ranking, where UTM held the 444th position.

The Webometrics Ranking is a widely recognized ranking system that evaluates the performance of universities worldwide based on various indicators, including web presence, impact, openness, and excellence. UTM’s upward trajectory in the ranking is a testament to its continuous commitment to academic excellence, research, and innovation.

The calculation methodology for this ranking instrument comprises 50% of the total marks coming from “visibility”, which means the high-impact web content with an external web networks linking to the page, 10% from “top-cited researchers on Google Scholar Profiles” and 40% from the “number of papers amongst the top 10% most cited papers in Scimago database.”

UTM, known for its dedication to producing high-caliber graduates and impactful research, has consistently demonstrated its prowess on both national and international platforms. The university’s strong emphasis on research output, international collaborations, and community engagement has contributed to its rising global profile.
