JOHOR BAHRU, 29 Jun – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MISE Energy Sdn Bhd (MESB), the world’s leading solutions provider for hydrocarbon production enhancement to allow industrial and academia strategic collaboration.
The MoU was signed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr Rosli Md Illias on behalf of UTM while MESB was represented by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ezamy Adlan in a simple ceremony held at the Main Meeting Room (BMU), Sultan Ibrahim Chancellery Building (BCSI), UTM.
Among the collaboration agreed upon by both parties were joint development of staff training programmes, internship placements as well as development and participation in joint projects, research and workshops related to the Oil and Gas (O&G) production enhancement.
This strategic partnership will also facilitate the melding of MESB’s wealth of experience in the Peninsular Malaysia (PMA) and Sarawak Oil (SKO) hydrocarbon fields with the excellent research capabilities and facilities of UTM, one of the country’s top universities.
Prof. Rosli in his welcoming speech highlighted that UTM has always prioritised engagements with the industries as such interactions will bring many advantages to the learning syllabus and broaden the frontiers of knowledge.
“Such collaboration with industrial players would serve as a stepping stone in suiting curriculum to modern times. It is therefore imperative to nurture the industry-academia connection via research and development and internship placements.
UTM researchers will also have the opportunity to collaborate with their industrial partners to get their research outputs to commercial visibility level,” stated the Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
Meanwhile the CEO of MESB, Ezamy Adlan quoted that this partnership bodes well for his company’s overall goal of developing Malaysia as a whole by capitalising on the gaps in the oil and gas sector by supporting local industry innovation.
“We are also pleased to be able to contribute towards UTM’s efforts in nurturing industry-ready graduates with higher employability rates,” said Ezamy after the signing ceremony.
Among the attendees were the Director of UTM-MPRC Institute for Oil and Gas UTM, Prof. Dr Rahmat Mohsin, Director of the School of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Prof. Dr Mohd Ghazali Mohd Nawawi and Head of the Petroleum Department together with Senior Lecturer, School of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Dr Muhammad Noorul Anam Mohd Norddin and Dr Azad Anugerah Ali Rasol.
MESB is confident of the successful realisation of its inaugural MoU with UTM, a public university that ranks 38th in the QS Asia University Rankings 2022 with Petroleum Engineering subject listed as Top 50 in the world.
