Nationally, UTM is ranked 3rd among 23 institutions in Malaysia, further establishing its reputation as one of the leading universities in the country.
The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings is one of the most prestigious global university ranking systems that evaluate institutions based on several key performance indicators, including teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
In this year’s edition, UTM’s Teaching pillar is ranked 286 among other institutions. This achievement reflects UTM’s commitment to providing a high-quality learning environment, supported by a favorable student-staff ratio, a strong teaching reputation, and substantial institutional income, as outlined in the enVision UTM 2025 Strategic Plan
While UTM continues to enhance its overall standing, this achievement in the teaching pillar underscores its dedication to fostering academic excellence and student success on a global scale.
From 2020 to 2022, UTM maintained its position within the 601-800 band, consistently performing at a high level across key areas such as research output, academic reputation, and industry partnerships. However, 2023 marked a breakthrough year for UTM, with the university advancing into the 401-500 range for the first time, a position it has successfully maintained in the 2024 and 2025 rankings.
“We are proud to see UTM’s continuous upward trajectory in the global rankings,” said Professor Datuk Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, Vice-Chancellor of UTM. “This achievement reflects the dedication of our faculty, staff, and students, and our strong commitment to not only teaching but also research excellence, innovation, and international partnerships. UTM’s position among the top 500 universities, according to the Times Higher Education, showcases our commitment to remain at the forefront of higher education.”
“We are not merely focused on numbers or rankings per se. Ultimately, our goal is to reach greater heights by fostering a culture of scholarly excellence and innovation, and by deepening our local and global impact through strategic partnerships,” added Professor Datuk Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi.
