Johor Bahru, 13 February 2026 – School of Professional and Continuing Education, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTMSPACE), through the Process Systems Engineering Centre (PROSPECT),UTM successfully conducted the Registered Energy Manager (REM Type 1) Training from 9 to 13 February 2026. The training was held at Le Grandeur Palm Resort Johor and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Bahru. The five-day programme was designed to equip industry professionals with the knowledge and competencies required to support organizations in complying with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA) 2024, which mandates designated energy consumers to appoint qualified Registered Energy Managers (REM).
A total of five participants representing five organizations from various industrial sectors participated in the training. Throughout the training, participants were exposed to comprehensive modules covering energy policy and governance, energy management systems, energy auditing, and practical energy efficiency strategies. Participants represented several prominent organizations, including Panasonic System Networks Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Mewaholeo Industries Sdn. Bhd., CBRE GWS Sdn. Bhd., Hershey Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., and Foxconn Technology Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. The participation reflects the growing commitment among industry stakeholders to enhance energy efficiency practices and strengthen sustainability initiatives.
The programme concluded with a competency assessment conducted at PROSPECT, UTM Johor Bahru, which included:

A written theoretical examination (1 hour 30 minutes)

A technical interview session

An individual project presentation
These assessments were designed to evaluate participants’ understanding of energy management principles and their ability to apply them in real-world industrial contexts.
The REM Type 1 Training Programme is part of ongoing efforts by UTM and PROSPECT to support industry professionals in improving energy efficiency practices and complying with the requirements of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA) 2024. The programme also aims to strengthen the pool of qualified energy professionals capable of managing energy consumption effectively within their organizations. The REM Type 1 Training forms part of UTMSPACE and PROSPECT’s continuous efforts to support industry professionals and organizations in strengthening energy management capabilities and advancing Malaysia’s sustainability agenda.
Following the successful completion of the February session, the next Registered Energy Manager (REM Type 1) Training Programme will be conducted from 4–8 May 2026 in Johor Bahru an 10-14 August 2026 in Penang. The training is open to engineers, facility managers, energy managers, sustainability officers, and technical professionals who wish to enhance their expertise in energy management and prepare for compliance with EECA 2024.The training is HRDC claimable, allowing organizations to utilize their HRDC levy to support staff development.
