JOHOR BAHRU, 7 August 2025 – UTM’s Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC) is celebrating a significant achievement, with its researchers dominating the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia’s (UTM) representation in the Best Scientists in Malaysia 2025 rankings. The rankings, recently released by Research.com, highlight the most influential scientists in Malaysia across various disciplines. AMTEC researchers constitute the highest number of UTM-affiliated scientists recognized in two major fields: Engineering and Technology, and Materials Science. The evaluation process for the rankings considered the D-index (discipline-specific h-index), publication record, and citation data sourced from Google Scholar and Microsoft Academic Graph. In Materials Science, Prof. Datuk Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, the founding director of AMTEC and former Vice-Chancellor of UTM, secured the No. 1 ranking in Malaysia. This achievement underscores his global leadership and lasting impact on membrane and nanomaterials research. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mukhlis Abd Rahman also featured prominently, further solidifying AMTEC’s influence in this field. AMTEC’s strength in Engineering and Technology was evident with the recognition of six researchers among Malaysia’s best. These include Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Hafiz Dzarfan Othman, Prof. Ts. Dr. Juhana Jaafar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lau Woei Jye, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pei Sean Goh, Dr. Wan Norhayati Wan Salleh, and Dr. Farhana Aziz. Their accomplishments highlight AMTEC’s position as a leading research hub within UTM, significantly contributing to the university’s national and global standing in scientific innovation and academic excellence. This recognition not only celebrates the individual achievements of these researchers but also underscores the collective strength and impact of AMTEC. — By: Aiman Najwa Binti Zakaria, Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre, Jabatan Timbalan Naib Canselor (Penyelidikan dan Inovasi)
