JOHOR BAHRU, 3 September 2025 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) reaffirmed its commitment to research excellence through the ‘Kursus Pemerkasaan Pengetahuan MyRA dan HICoE 2025’, held on 2nd and 3rd September 2025 at Dewan Kuliah 8, N24, UTM Johor Bahru. The course, organized by the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) UTM, aimed to bolster understanding of the MyRA (Malaysian Research Assessment) and HICoE (Higher Institution Centre of Excellence) instruments, assess current achievements, identify performance gaps, and formulate strategies for university excellence.
The first day, Tuesday, 2nd September 2025, featured a briefing, a ‘Mastering Research Glossary & Terms’ session, and a ‘Strategy & Gap Analysis’ segment, running from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Esteemed speakers and facilitators, including Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Hafiz Dzarfan B. Othman, Prof. Madya Dr. Ezza Syuhada binti Sazali, Cik Zuridah binti Saadan, Cik Nur Amirah binti Ali, Ts. Noor Aklima binti Harun, and Dr. Zuhaili binti Idham, guided participants through the intricacies of MyRA and HICoE.
The second day involved interactive and practical hands-on sessions, encompassing Data Roadmap, Data Management, and Case Study analyses. These sessions were designed to provide participants with actionable insights and tools to enhance their research endeavors, aligning with UTM’s strategic goals for research and innovation. UTM consistently emphasizes the importance of data management and strategic planning in research to maintain its competitive edge both nationally and internationally. The MyRA instrument, in particular, serves as a crucial tool for evaluating research performance and guiding future strategies. The HICoE status recognizes and supports centers of excellence within Malaysian universities, driving them to achieve greater heights in research and innovation. The course reflects UTM’s proactive approach to ensuring its researchers are well-equipped to contribute to national research agendas and sustainable development goals.
