PUEBLA, Mexico, 13 June 2025 – UTM’s expertise shines on the global stage as Ts. Dr. Miss Hasimawaty Binti Mat Kiah, a Senior Lecturer from the Energy Engineering Department, Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, and a postdoctoral researcher at Stellenbosch University, represents both Malaysia and South Africa at the UPAEP Global Summer 2025 in Mexico. The prestigious program, running from 9 June to 4 July 2025, is held at the Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla (UPAEP) and marks its second edition as the region’s premier internationalisation initiative, focusing on global education.

The UPAEP Global Summer program boasts the participation of 60 professors from over 40 internationally renowned universities across Europe, Asia, North America, and Latin America. Ts. Dr. Miss Hasimawaty Binti Mat Kiah is the only international professor representing Malaysia and South Africa, making her presence particularly noteworthy. The diverse faculty backgrounds are expected to significantly enrich the educational experience for participating students.

Ts. Dr. Miss Hasimawaty Binti Mat Kiah expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to engage in global teaching with multicultural exposure, to build strong international networks with UPAEP professors and students, and to explore potential global research collaborations. She also noted that UPAEP students will benefit from diverse teaching methodologies, cultural perspectives, and the establishment of valuable international connections.

The program commenced on June 9 at the Arombo university restaurant with a welcoming ceremony attended by university officials and guests. The UPAEP Global Summer 2025 not only offers international faculty-led courses but also aims to foster lasting collaborations in training projects, joint research, and business networking. A parallel agenda featuring specialized workshops, keynote lectures, and interactive sessions is also planned, welcoming the university community, business leaders, and the public to maximize the impact of cultural and academic exchange throughout the region.

Such initiatives align with broader efforts to promote international collaboration in higher education and research. According to a 2024 report by the International Association of Universities (IAU), international partnerships enhance the quality and relevance of research and teaching, fostering innovation and addressing global challenges. UTM’s participation in programs like UPAEP Global Summer 2025 underscores its commitment to global engagement and its dedication to providing its faculty with opportunities to contribute to and learn from the international academic community. This global summer program will allow visiting professors to experience the cultural richness of Puebla and Mexico.
