KUALA LUMPUR, 13 February 2026 – GREAT EASTERN TAKAFUL BERHAD in collaboration with the Centre for Artificial Intelligence & Robotics (CAIRO), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur successfully organised the Great Innovation Challenge (GIC) Year 2 Training Module, a two day intensive programme focused on advanced automation, mechanical integration, and sustainable manufacturing aligned with environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles.

The programme brought together engineers, technical professionals, and industry practitioners for a structured learning experience integrating theoretical knowledge with practical industrial applications.

Advancing Industry 4.0 Automation Systems

The first day of the training emphasised advanced automation technologies aligned with Industry 4.0, including Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) architectures, AI driven intelligent automation, robotics with machine vision systems, 5G enabled industrial automation, and advanced programmable logic controller (PLC) programming and system integration.

Participants engaged in hands on sessions covering PLC architecture, industrial standard wiring practices, sensor and actuator integration, and system interfacing with computers and microcontrollers. The programme also highlighted safety engineering, fail safe mechanisms, and resilient automation systems as essential components in modern smart factory environments.

Integrating ESG into Green Manufacturing

On the second day, the focus shifted towards Green Manufacturing and ESG implementation strategies. Participants examined ESG frameworks, ISO 14001 sustainability standards, energy efficiency approaches, smart metering technologies, circular economy principles, and the application of AI and IoT for predictive maintenance and monitoring.

A structured deployment framework comprising Measure, Optimise, Implement, Monitor, and Report guided participants in simulating real world project execution. The exercise incorporated return on investment evaluation and cost benefit analysis to strengthen practical decision making capabilities.

Strengthening Industry Collaboration

The GIC Year 2 Training Module reflects the strong collaboration between GREAT EASTERN TAKAFUL BERHAD and CAIRO UTM in promoting industry relevant knowledge transfer. By integrating automation technologies with ESG principles, the initiative supports the advancement of intelligent and sustainable industrial practices in Malaysia.
