IBD is a centre of excellence that brings together innovative natural products research and bioproduct development. The works carried out at IBD is focus on an emerging niche area; the utilization of plants and microbes for the development of new products for human health and wellness. IBD provides a comprehensive technology platform in bioprocessing for production and characterization of these bioactive intermediates. On top of the well established fermentation and herbal processing facilities, new technology in the downstream processing such as granulation and lyophilization are introduced. These bioactive intermediates are in the form of standardized whole extracts, fractionated, purified extracts and pure compounds used for the formulation of high value nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals and herbal products. To date, IBD has commercialized more than 30 bioproducts and have been working closely with relevant industrial partners local and international. In essence, IBD services comprises of contract research and consultancy, analytical services, postgraduate programs and professional courses in the area of natural products and bioproduct development.
