E-Sports UTM is one of the student clubs under the Sports Innovation and Technology Centre (SITC). As the MCO implemented, the club has made several reviews on video games that can be played during the MCO. Some of the video games that were reviewed, were PUBG Mobile, Rocket League, Worm Zone, Bright Memory Games and The Will of Wisps.
[1] PUBG Mobile is still one of the most popular games in the world, and Tencent Games is adding something extra to make players keep on playing. Arctic Mode is hitting PUBG Mobile ever since 16 April. This new rule set introduces a survival element to the smaller Vikendi map by covering it, with a freezing weather and snow. Players must not worry on staying warm as the temperature drops. In Arctic Mode, cold spells will sweep into the level, periodically. To fight this spell, players must find resources to keep their character’s body temperature up. These include electric heater, chemical warming pack and lighter fire.
While [2] Rocket League is a vehicular soccer video game which developed and published by Psyonix. The game was first released by Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4 in July 2015, with ports for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, been released later. The game is described as “soccer, but with rocket-powered cars”, with a single-player and multiplayer modes which can be played, both locally and online. The UTM E-Sports hopes this review can help people to stay at home during the MCO, and together, we pray for the pandemic to stop.
[3] Worm zone is a game on how to grow your worm to be the largest and earn yourself a champion’s title! Regardless the tactics you choose, there is one simple rule to be remembered – if you collide with an opponent you lose! But if you encircle your opponent, not only you eliminate them, but you can steal all the tasty treats they picked up.
Another game called [4] Bright Memory Games is the first-person shooter hack and slash episodic video game, developed by Chinese independent developer FYQD Personal Studio. “Episode 1” was released through Steam’s Early Access program for Microsoft Windows on 12 January 2019.
Lastly, [5] The Will of Wisps is a platform-adventure Metroid Vania video game, developed by Moon Studios and published by Xbox Game Studios for Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. It is a direct sequel to the 2015 title Ori and the Blind Forest, which was released on 11 March 2020.
The game is visualized as an overhaul from two-dimensional artworks in Blind Forest, to three-dimensional models, played in multi-layered background in Will of the Wisps. Unlike its predecessor Blind Forest, Will of the Wisps relies on autosaving, rather than manually placed “soul links.” The sequential upgrade system of the first title has been abandoned for a system of “shards,” which can be purchased or found throughout the game to upgrade or modify Ori’s stats and attacks.
