While educational and occupational resources inequalities might negatively influence the job alternatives open to people with disabilities, negative attitudes toward disability and discrimination based on disability status can also significantly hinder long-term and fairly compensated work. Thus, the knowledge gained by the participants from the program can support and guide future applications and give equal chances in occupation for youth with disabilities. In addition, technology plays a significant role in most work in this century. New forms of work in digital gig jobs that are remote and flexible are opening up opportunities for youth with disabilities.
Media and Game Innovation Centre of Excellence (MaGICX) provides a platform and warmly welcomes a total of 22 youths from the People with Disabilities (OKU) category who participated in the MyCEKAP youth program on the digital empowerment workshop at the MaGICX Seminar Room, UIRL Building, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
MyCEKAP youth program, the digital empowerment workshop, is one of the programs organized by the Communication Branch for the Empowerment of People with Disabilities (CKPOKU), Communication Services and Community Development Division, and the Department of Information Malaysia. This program aims to strengthen the digital skills of youth with disabilities and the Malaysian Family Community (KKM) to face the challenges of the 4.0 industry revolution and increase the marketability of participants in employment.
It is noted that the unemployment rates for youth with disabilities are higher than for most of the youth population in most of society.
