Cleanliness is a part of our life, it helps us stay refreshed and hygienic on a personal level. Cleanliness plays an essential role in a successful ecosystem. To implement a waste-free lifestyle on campus, the Institute of Human Centered Engineering (iHumEn), Institute of Future Energy (IFE), lbnu Sina Institute for Scientific & Industrial Research (ISI-SIR), Research Institute for Sustainable Environment (RISE), Institute for Smart Infrastructure and Innovative Construction (ISIIC), and Institute for Vehicle and Systems and Engineering (IVeSE) have successfully organized an event “Jom KUDAH iSEReNE”, which was held on 20th October 2022 at Tropical Garden, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

The event was attended by great participation from iHumEn, IFE, ISI-SIR, RISE, ISIIC, and IVeSE members. While the agenda of the event mainly focuses on the cleanliness of the surrounding campus in which participants have to collect any type of rubbish and gather it in the designated rubbish area.

It is believed that cleanliness gives a fresh and good look to our surroundings. A clean and waste-free environment is potential to minimize the entry of rats, cockroaches, and other parasitic worms or insects. Further, it lessens the chances of any viruses or bacteria harming us.

This green effort offers a lot of benefits, this is one of the strategies for achieving sustainable development goals (SDG). Sustainability improves the quality of our lives and protects our ecosystem. Waste prevention, recycling, reuse, and recovery are important to waste management strategies that ease the burden on landfills, conserve natural resources, and save energy. This helps utilize resources more effectively and sustainably.

This great initiative in practicing a waste-free lifestyle organized from all the research institutes of UTM shall be done frequently as it provides numerous advantages to the campus, surrounding and the university’s community. It is everyone’s effort and responsibility to keep our environment free of waste and preserves natural resources for future generations.
