Medical Devices and Technology Centre (MEDiTEC) in collaboration with the Medical Device Authority (MDA) Ministry of Health Malaysia, successfully enabled the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signing ceremony, which took place on February 22, 2024, at UTM Kuala Lumpur. The event was officiated by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, and the Chief Executive Officer of MDA, Dr. Muralitharan A/L Paramasua. Others attended VIP, including the Director of the Institute of Human-Centered Engineering (iHumEn), Prof. Dr. Mohd. Shahrizal Sunar, along with Director and members of MEDiTEC and MDA.

The event aims to foster a collaborative partnership between UTM and MDA to establish a Medical Device Executive Program. This strategic cooperation, which will last for three years, encompasses the development of 22 Executive Program modules in medical devices. These modules will be offered to industry players, medical device authorities, and medical professionals in Malaysia and the broader region. This initiative signifies a significant step towards enhancing the expertise and skills within the medical device sector, ensuring that industry standards are met and exceeded.

In addition to its comprehensive curriculum, the Medical Device Executive Program will be designed as a micro-credential course, allowing participants to transfer credits toward a Master’s degree in Medical Device Technology or an equivalent program offered by UTM or other institutions, subject to admission requirements. This aspect of the program aims to provide flexibility and accessibility to professionals seeking to advance their education and career prospects.

Furthermore, the collaboration between UTM and MDA is expected to stimulate innovation and research within the medical device field, promoting the development of cutting-edge technologies and methodologies. By aligning educational programs with industry needs, this partnership will benefit the participants and contribute to the overall growth and advancement of the medical device industry in Malaysia and beyond. The MoA between UTM and MDA marks the beginning of a promising journey toward excellence in medical device education and industry collaboration.
