IJN-UTM Cardiovascular Engineering Center (IJN-UTM CEC), Institute of Human Centered Engineering (iHumEn), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), has successfully organized the Professional Course on Good Clinical Practice (GCP) 2022 on 1 – 3 March 2022 at UTM, Skudai, Johor.
The GCP 2022 has received participants from UTM, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), and Johor Bahru District Health Office (PKD JB). Of the total 27 participants, 26 were to sit for the GCP examination, while one participant was present to review lectures related to GCP.
GCP certification is an international ethical, scientific, and practical standard for all clinical research. Researchers involved in clinical research are trained or appropriately experienced to perform the specific tasks they are being asked to undertake. The knowledge gained from this professional course could guide researchers in conducting research ethically.
According to Dr Syafiqah Saidin, the Director of the IJN-UTM CEC, this program has been planned since 2020 however had to be postponed due to the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic. She also expressed her gratitude even though the program had to be conducted in a hybrid mode which online lectures and physical GCP examinations at UTM, Johor Bahru.
The GCP lecture was delivered by a renowned speaker, Prof. Dr Abdul Rashid Bin Abdul Rahman. He is one of the lead authors of the Malaysian Guideline for Good Clinical Practice reference book. In addition, there were two speakers from the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA), MOH, namely Mrs Lee Wei Xin and Mr Oh Chen Wei.
The professional course was conducted for three days includes two and a half lectures and an hour of GCP examination. In addition, an experience-sharing session was also held for the participants at the end of the course. This sharing session was presented by two researchers from the School of Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, UTM, which are Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maheza Irna Binti Mohamad Salim and Dr. Aizreena Binti Azaman.
