On February 17, 2025, two speakers from the Institute of High Voltage and High Current (IVAT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) were invited to deliver a general lecture at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sriwijaya, Palembang campus. The event brought together faculty members and students from the Department of Electrical Engineering eager to explore cutting-edge topics in the field.

The session commenced with welcome remarks by Dr. Ir. Bhakti Yudho Suprapto, ST., MT., IPM, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. He emphasized the importance of integrating theoretical knowledge with industrial applications to enhance the university’s academic and research excellence.
Following this, Ir. Muhammad Abu Bakar Sidik, ST., M.Eng., Ph.D., IPU, Head of the Department of Electrical Power, delivered the opening remarks. He highlighted the department’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements and strengthening collaborations with industry experts to enrich academic programs and research initiatives.
The lecture showcased IVAT’s expertise in emerging technologies through insightful presentations by two researchers:
Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Hafizi Ahmad presented “Partial Discharge: Theoretical and Industry.” Providing an in-depth analysis of partial discharge phenomena, their effects on electrical insulation systems, and the significance of monitoring and mitigating these occurrences to ensure equipment reliability. The session also shared industry best practices for detecting and managing partial discharges, effectively bridging the gap between theoretical concepts and practical applications.
