Introduction to Dielectrics and Insulation Research

Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation (DEI) is one of the research themes at the Institute of High Voltage and High Current (IVAT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). DEI focuses on the state-of-the-art study, research and development in the field of dielectrics and electrical insulation for high voltage equipment. It is generally included a fundamental studies of electrical discharges phenomena that occur in high voltage insulation systems such as partial discharges, surface tracking, water and electrical treeing, ozone and plasma discharges. Also, developments of new insulating materials have been extensively carried out. DEI has so far secured grants amounting to more than RM 2 million, published in numerous international and national high impact journals, scientific books and conference papers and patented a number of products and intellectual property rights for commercialisation purposes.
