Johor Bahru, Malaysia — The Process Systems Engineering Centre (PROSPECT) at Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) will soon introduce a new professional training program for Registered Energy Manager (REM) Type 2, aimed at strengthening competency in thermal energy management and supporting compliance with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA) 2024.
The upcoming program is designed for professionals responsible for managing energy performance in facilities with significant thermal energy consumption, particularly those using more than 50,000 GJ of energy annually. Under EECA 2024, designated energy consumers are required to appoint a Registered Energy Manager (REM) to oversee energy management practices and improve energy efficiency within their organisations.
According to PROSPECT UTM, the REM Type 2 program will focus on equipping participants with the necessary technical knowledge, regulatory understanding, and practical skills needed to manage thermal energy systems effectively. The training will also support organisations in meeting regulatory requirements while enhancing operational efficiency and sustainability. The program will cover key areas including energy governance, energy legislation, safety fundamentals, technical and financial principles of energy management, thermal system operations, and energy saving strategies. Participants will also be introduced to thermal energy auditing techniques, including energy performance indicators (EnPI), data analysis, and measurement and verification (M&V) practices.
The REM Type 2 training programme will be delivered by experienced trainers and industry practitioners affiliated with UTM PROSPECT, providing participants with practical insights into energy management challenges in industrial and large-scale facilities. Professionals who have completed REM Type 1 training and possess relevant experience in energy management are encouraged to participate in the program as part of their professional development pathway. The training will consist of a five-day structured course followed by an assessment, where participants are required to achieve a passing score before receiving a certificate of completion. Further details, including training dates, programme fees, and registration information can be found in the poster. For more information or early enquiries, interested participants may contact:
