Introduction

Take your energy management credentials to the highest professional level. Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), through the Process Systems Engineering Centre (PROSPECT) and the Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering (FKT), is an officially certified Registered Training Institution (RTI No: IL1-2025-0009/0001) under the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) Malaysia. This specialized training centers extensively on thermal energy systems, thermal audits, and complex waste heat recovery systems.

Legal Mandate: The High-Energy Threshold The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA) 2024 places strict, unavoidable compliance demands on major industrial consumers. Appointing a certified REM Type 2 is legally MANDATORY for:

  • Industrial operations and high-intensity manufacturing facilities consuming exceeding 50,000 GJ of total energy per year.

Advanced Specialized Curriculum Designed for deep engineering mastery, this 5-day professional course covers advanced domains including:

  • Key Principles and Concepts in Thermal Energy Applications.

  • Common Energy Saving Measures for Boilers, Steam Systems, Furnaces, Insulation, and Cogeneration.

  • Advanced Thermal Energy Auditing, Performance Indicators, and M&V (Measurement & Verification).

Certification Pathway Participants who complete the 5 days and clear the comprehensive examination, technical interview, and project presentation will gain a Certificate of Completion, qualifying them for official ST registration as an REM Type 2.

Why REM Type 2?

Under EECA 2024, designated energy consumers are required to appoint a Registered Energy Manager (REM) to oversee and enhance energy management practices.

REM Type 2 is intended for facilities consuming 50,000 GJ or more annually, where thermal systems play a major role in energy use. This programme helps participants build competency in thermal systems, energy saving opportunities, and audit practices relevant to industrial operations.
