Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) combines the Faculty of Biosciences and Biomedicine (FBB) with the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences (FKBSK) into a new faculty in force in the 2012/2013 academic session beginning this month. UTM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Zaini Ujang said the new faculty known as Faculty of Biosciences and Medical Engineering (FBME). “Through the merger, the system of teaching and learning will be strengthened in view of the common areas of expertise include biochemistry, biosensors and biological modeling. “The move could cost more than RM200,000 annual emoluments up to a UTM, in which does not include the cost of management and administration,” he said in a statement here today. Zaini said FBB building located in the Clusters on campus will be FBME main building that houses the administrative offices, human resource management and academia. According to him, the building also houses laboratories and equipment for undergraduate programs, teaching and learning facilities for 700 students, including branches of the library. “The equipment is housed in the building which was used as the main undergraduate and postgraduate students doing coursework because of its position on campus. “Meanwhile, FKBSK building located in Taman Universiti into building a satellite equipped with laboratories and equipment for research in the biomedical field,” he said.
