Overview

The PhD in Engineering Education is a research-intensive program designed to provide candidates with the fundamental principles of engineering education, effective research design strategies, and insights into the current trends and needs in the engineering education field. Candidates are strongly encouraged to complete pre-requisite courses to equip them with the foundational knowledge necessary for advanced research.

The program is ideal for those aspiring to roles in academia, industry, consulting and government agencies. The program is also suitable for engineering education researchers, educational training specialists, technical communication experts, or those holding leadership positions such as directors of teaching or learning centers, diversity programs, or outreach initiatives, as the program provides the knowledge and skills required in the field.

The Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Education program at the Centre for Engineering Education is dedicated to advancing the field of engineering through innovative teaching and research. Our program aims to develop leaders who can transform engineering education and contribute to the global community.

This program is designed for individuals seeking to deepen their understanding of engineering education, engage in cutting-edge research, and influence educational practices worldwide. Graduates are prepared to take on roles in academia, industry, and policy-making, driving change and innovation.

Postgraduate student may apply at any time. Application received after the closing date will be offered for next registration.

• Application for February intake is open from September to November (for international student) and from September to December (for local student).
• Application for September intake is open from Mac to Jun (for international student) and from Mac to July (for local student).

Fees: RM 18,350 (Local) / RM 48,600 (International)

Duration: 3 years to 8 years (6 semesters – 16 semesters)

Minimum requirements:

1. A Master’s Degree from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the Senate; or
2. Other qualifications equivalent to a Master’s Degree and experience in the relevant field recognised by the Senate; and
3. A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related field from institution of higher learning recognized by the UTM Senate ; or
4. Other qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in relevant field recognised by the Senate and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in teaching, studying, or conducting research in engineering education.
