CALL FOR PAPERS
The Universiti Teknologi Malaysia is pleased to invite you to the 2025 Research in Engineering Education Symposium (REES) 2025 invites you to join us in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, from 29 September to 3 October 2025, for an in-depth discussion of our theme, “Transforming Engineering Education: Breaking Boundaries of Research and Practice. “Held in conjunction with the Regional Conference in Engineering Education (RCEE), Research in Higher Education (RHEd), and the Innovative Practices in Higher Education Expo (I-PHEX), REES 2025 will be a great opportunity to engage with global and regional perspectives to share meaningful latest research trends, and discuss innovative practices shaping the future of engineering education.
REES is the biennial symposium of the Research in Engineering Education Network (REEN), an international community of scholars interested in conducting high quality work and advancing the field of engineering education research. REES aims to provide an independent, international and inclusive forum to advance scholarly discourse on research in engineering education
REES 2025 aims to transform engineering education by breaking the boundaries of research and practice to make engineering education more dynamic, relevant and responsive to the needs of learners and society. We foster impactful dialogue that breaks traditional boundaries across geography, culture, and discipline in pursuit of meaningful advancement of engineering education
REES 2025 will be conducted face-to-face with selected online paper presentation & workshop sessions and recorded streaming for key sessions to provide flexible and engaging experience for all participants. We welcome submissions that address diverse aspects of engineering education that aligns with the conference theme.
Join us in Johor Bahru to share your insights, collaborate with peers, and contribute to transforming engineering education for a sustainable and innovative future.
CATEGORIES OF PAPERS
Authors are invited to submit their work based on the categories below:
- Full Paper (5 – 8 pages)
Authors submitting full papers will present their work in oral sessions and have it published in the conference proceedings.
- Short paper (3 – 4 pages)
Authors submitting short papers will present their work in oral session but will not be included in the conference proceedings.
Selected full papers will be published in the conference proceedings which will be Scopus indexed and available at https://www.proceedings.com/.

PAPER TRACKS
Authors are invited to submit their work in areas of interest (sub-themes) based on one of the following tracks
1. Scholarly Research in Engineering Education & Higher Education
The paper should explain a rigorous and scholarly study that has significant contribution to the advancement of engineering education or higher education. The paper should highlight research questions, theoretical framework, sound research methodology, research results and appropriate discussion.
2. Scholarly Experience Sharing in Engineering Education & Higher Education
The paper should explain promising practice that is supported by research evidence, previous studies and theoretical framework in related teaching and learning method in engineering education or higher education.
3. Work-in-Progress in Engineering Education & Higher Education Research
The paper may not have the final research results but it opens up discussion for improving the research gap, theories, literature review and research methodology that provides significant contribution to engineering education or higher education.

In line with the mission and vision of the Research in Engineering Education Network (REEN) to foster an independent, international, vibrant, and inclusive community of scholars, REES 2025 strongly encourages in-person participation, particularly for participants based within the Asia region.
To uphold the spirit of meaningful collaboration, knowledge sharing, and scholarly discourse, virtual participation and corresponding registration fees are intended for participants residing outside of the Asia region.
We believe that active, face-to-face engagement strengthens the connections within our global community, nurtures new and veteran researchers, and promotes rich exchanges of ideas that advance engineering education research globally.
