Director’s Welcoming Message
“Let us work together in powering a sustainable future through hydrogen.” – Prof. Dr. Aishah Binti Abdul Jalil, Director of CHE.
Centre of Hydrogen Energy (CHE), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
Welcome to the Centre of Hydrogen Energy (CHE), a dedicated research centre under the Institute of Future Energy (IFE), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
As the Director of CHE, I am honoured to lead a centre that stands at the forefront of Malaysia’s transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future. Hydrogen is rapidly emerging as a key enabler in the global clean energy landscape, offering immense potential to decarbonise industries, transform transportation, and drive green economic growth.
CHE plays a strategic role in supporting Malaysia’s energy ambitions as outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR). These frameworks guide our collective efforts in positioning Malaysia as a regional hydrogen hub by leveraging innovation, collaboration, and sustainable development.
In this regard, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, YB Chang Lih Kang, highlighted that:
“Malaysia aims to produce two million tonnes of hydrogen annually by 2030, and up to 16 million tonnes by 2050. The hydrogen market could potentially generate at least RM905 billion in revenue by 2050, if HETR is successfully implemented.”
This statement underscores the urgent need for strategic action and the role of centres like CHE in bridging research, industry application, and policy support.
As a research centre under IFE-UTM, CHE is committed to leading hydrogen research and innovation, from production technologies and storage systems to safety standards and applications. Our mission is to contribute meaningful solutions that support national aspirations, while cultivating a knowledge-based hydrogen economy.
We welcome partnerships from industry players, researchers, government bodies, and international collaborators to co-create impactful hydrogen initiatives that benefit both Malaysia and the global community.
Thank you for visiting our website. Let us work together in powering a sustainable future through hydrogen.
