WORKSHOP ON PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING

Part 1: Problem Crafting (3-4 November 2022)

This workshop provides an overview of Problem-based Learning (PBL) and the different models associated with PBL (which includes POPBL). The main focus of the workshop is on the systematic approach of crafting complex problems for PBL. To get the full benefit from this workshop, participants should have implemented Active Learning & Cooperative Learning.

Workshop Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • justify the need for PBL
  • explain different PBL models and the reasons behind them
  • undergo the Cooperative Problem Based Learning (CPBL) process and explain the significance of each step
  • craft problems for CPBL to attain outcomes

 

Part 2: Design Facilitation & Implementation (5-6 November 2022)

This workshop is the continuation of the Problem-based Learning (PBL) Problem Crafting workshop. The focus of the workshop is on the systematic approach of design, plan and implementation of PBL environment for a typical classroom. Participants should have a crafted problem ready that can be used in PBL so that they can proceed to design and plan their implementation using the Cooperative Problem Based Learning process. To get the full benefit from this workshop, participants should have implemented Active Cooperative Learning.

Workshop Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • design a constructively aligned PBL environment
  • plan a systematic implementation using the CPBL framework
  • facilitate learning teams in PBL
  • scaffold and motivate students in PBL
