PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
The students shall spend a minimum residential period at the partner institution for at least five months. A student must complete a minimum of 30 ECTS (or 20 credits) of courses where a minimum of 9 ECTS (or 6 credits) must be taken at each of the institutions. The list of courses is (not limited to) as below:
- UTM University Compulsory Course (3 credits / 4.5 ECTS)
- Fundamental of Engineering Education (3 credits / 4.5 ECTS)
- Research Methodology in Engineering Education (3 credits / 4.5 ECTS)
- Data Analysis Techniques (3 credits / 4.5 ECTS)
- Issues in Engineering Education (3 credits / 4.5 ECTS)
- PBL in Engineering and Sciences (1 credit / 2 ECTS)
- Academic Writing in English (2 credits / 3 ECTS)
- An Introduction to Qualitative Research Approaches in Technology, Science and Education (2 credits / 3 ECTS)
- Ethics and Social Responsibilities for Scientists and Engineers in the 21st Century (2 credits / 2.5 ECTS)
- PhD Entrepreneur (1 credit / 2 ECTS)
- Writing and Reviewing of Research Papers (1 credit / 2 ECTS)
- Professional Communication (2 credits / 2.5 ECTS)
- Intellectual Property Rights (1 credit / 2 ECTS)
- Other courses from international universities approved by supervisor
Students are required to undertake research on topics approved by the Academic Panel for the Engineering Education Doctorate Program. At the enrollment, applicants need to submit an initial study plan including identification of initial research questions, literature review, methodology and impact for practice in engineering education or engineering work.
No later than two months after enrolment in the Doctoral School the student shall submit a PhD study plan. After eleven months of study an updated study plan must be submitted to the Doctoral School for the First Stage Assessment.
Every six months, the supervisors shall assess whether the work of the PhD student follows the PhD study plan. The student may submit their thesis for an oral defense at the end of the study after the approval of both the supervisors.
